Established north-central Red Deer neighbourhood near river-valley parks, trails and recreation, with Pines Alternative Schools as a confirmed on-site educational facility; housing era and broader school catchments require address-level verification.

About Pines

Pines is a residential neighbourhood in north-central Red Deer, situated west of the Red Deer River and close to the river-valley recreation network. The City of Red Deer’s neighbourhood map shows a substantial built-up area bounded by streets including 45 Avenue, 47 Avenue, 49 Avenue, 52 Avenue, 61 Street, 68 Street, 71 Street and Riverside Drive. The map also identifies Pines Neighbourhood Park and Pines Escarpment within or immediately associated with the neighbourhood, while the river valley, Gaetz Lakes Sanctuary, Kerry Wood Nature Centre and McKenzie Trail Recreation Area are nearby destinations.

The official sources reviewed do not publish a definitive original-development date, build-out chronology, housing census, or neighbourhood-level breakdown by dwelling type. For that reason, Pines is best described cautiously as an established urban residential area rather than assigned a specific decade or marketed as a particular architectural style. Its street pattern and extensive existing address coverage indicate a settled neighbourhood, but they do not by themselves verify when individual blocks were built. Prospective residents should expect the housing stock and condition to vary by street and should verify any property-specific details independently.

Homes, schools and recreation

School access requires similar care. The Red Deer Public Schools division lists Pines Alternative Schools at 8 Page Avenue and describes programming for students in grades 9–12 who need alternatives to the regular school environment, including academic-intervention and alternative academic programs. That is a confirmed educational facility in Pines, but it is not evidence that the neighbourhood has a conventional elementary or middle school, nor does the source establish public- or Catholic-school attendance boundaries for every address. Families should confirm the current designated school and transportation arrangements with the relevant school division before relying on proximity.

Recreation is a notable practical feature. The City map places Pines near parks, trails, the river and the escarpment, and the City’s River Bend Recreation Area page describes wooded hiking trails, canoeing and fishing, cross-country ski trails, boat-launch access and River Bend Golf Course. The nearby G.H. Dawe Community Centre offers a water park, gymnasium, fitness centre, track and arenas, with the City listing its address as 6175 67 Street.

From a central Pines point, driving distances are approximately 3–4 kilometres to Red Deer City Hall, 3–4 kilometres to G.H. Dawe Community Centre, approximately 3–4 kilometres to River Bend Golf Course, and approximately 10–12 kilometres to Canyon Ski Resort. These are broad planning estimates, not precise route measurements; actual distances vary with the starting block, destination entrance, traffic and route. Pines therefore combines established-city convenience with quick access to north-side community facilities and Red Deer’s river-valley landscape.

From a property-search perspective, Pines is best assessed at the address level. Review a home’s apparent age, maintenance history, street position, nearby open space, school-boundary status and current competition rather than relying on a neighbourhood-wide pattern alone. Nicole can help put those practical details in context before you decide whether to move forward.

Neighbourhood details, attendance information, amenities and distances should be confirmed for a specific property and date. The map marks a representative neighbourhood centre, not a legal boundary.
