An established south Red Deer neighbourhood centred on McLean Park, with practical access to civic services, recreation and major destinations; housing details and school assignments require address-level verification.

About Morrisroe Extension

Morrisroe Extension is a south-central Red Deer residential neighbourhood whose character is best understood through its established street network, community-park setting and relationship to the larger Morrisroe area. The City of Red Deer publishes a dedicated neighbourhood map for Morrisroe Extension, while the City’s community-association directory describes the broader Morrisroe area as mature and identifies East Morrisroe as the association serving the extension. Those sources support describing the neighbourhood as established rather than presenting it as a new-growth subdivision; they do not, however, publish a definitive construction chronology for the extension.

Housing is primarily a settled residential environment, but publicly available municipal sources do not provide a current housing-inventory breakdown by building type, age or tenure for Morrisroe Extension. Accordingly, it is safer to describe the area generally as established housing than to attach an unsupported “typical” home style or development date. Individual listings may show detached, attached or multi-unit properties, but buyers should verify the form, renovation history and age of any particular home at the property level.

Homes, schools and recreation

School access requires similar care. Red Deer Public Schools’ current attendance-boundary table lists Morrisroe and assigns it to Annie L. Gaetz Elementary, Eastview Middle School and Hunting Hills High School, but it does not separately list Morrisroe Extension. That omission means the table alone should not be used to promise a school assignment for every extension address. Families should confirm the current designated schools and any program or transportation eligibility with the relevant school authority before relying on the information.

The neighbourhood’s clearest local recreation asset is McLean Park. The City lists the Morrisroe Extension neighbourhood activity centre at 35 McLean Street, operated by the East Morrisroe Community Association; the centre is used principally as a winter skate-change facility and can also support community functions, although the City notes that it is not available during summer months. The association directory also identifies the site as being in the centre of McLean Park and notes summer activity by Renegades Soccer Club.

Practically, Morrisroe Extension sits within Red Deer’s established south side, with straightforward access to central civic services and north-side recreation by car. From a neighbourhood-centre point near the activity centre, driving distances are approximately 3.9 km to Red Deer City Hall, 11.9 km to Canyon Ski Resort, 4.1 km to G.H. Dawe Community Centre, and 6.5 km to Red Deer Golf & Country Club. These are approximate route estimates and can vary with the starting point, route and traffic. G.H. Dawe offers a water park, gymnasium, fitness centre, track and arenas, making it the more useful comparison for all-season recreation.

Overall, Morrisroe Extension’s appeal is its established setting, nearby community-park amenity and practical access across Red Deer. Housing mix, development dates and school boundaries should be checked address by address because the available public sources do not establish those details comprehensively.

From a property-search perspective, Morrisroe Extension is best assessed at the address level. Review a home’s apparent age, maintenance history, street position, nearby open space, school-boundary status and current competition rather than relying on a neighbourhood-wide pattern alone. Nicole can help put those practical details in context before you decide whether to move forward.
